Los Angeles International Airport, known simply as LAX, is located on the coast, some 15 miles southwest of downtown Los Angeles. For international traffic it is second in the US only to JFK in New York, making this one very busy airport, with around 60 million passengers taking flights to Los Angeles each year.

With the volume of people and the distance from the city it is often worthwhile picking up a hire car from the airport rather than waiting to collect one from the city as it makes the whole process of leaving the airport so much easier. The alternative is to arrange a transfer to the hotel upon arrival and pick up the hire car the following day in downtown LA.
